How To: Plant and grow pumpkins

Plant and grow pumpkins

In this how to video, you will learn how to grow pumpkins. First, you must pick an area with plenty of sunshine to place your seeds in. Make sure there is enough room for vine and pumpkin growth, and that the area will not freeze. Build a mound of dirt about three fit in diameter with compost and soil. Next, plant two seeds per mound. Plant them in the middle about 8 inches apart. Cover the seeds with an inch of soil. Give them plenty of water once you have planted them. The pumpkin vines grow very long and fast. You can prune these if you want. After 7 days, you should notice sprouting from the mound. You should notice flowers at about 8 weeks. You will then see female flowers later. Bees are important, so make sure you see that they are around at this time. There will be a lot of vine growth during the next few weeks. Use stakes to handle the vines. Soon, you will see baby pumpkins on the vines with a flower on top. When the pumpkins grow bigger, be sure to rotate them from time to time. Not doing so will cause the pumpkins to be flat on one side. They should be ready to cut off the vine once they are a deep orange color. The vines should shrivel. Remember, water the pumpkins i the morning and make sure they get sunshine. Also, be careful of bugs. Scarecrows help keep away bigger animals. Chicken wire can also be useful. You now know how to grow pumpkins.
